about myself

I am Janna Ullrich, an Amsterdam-based designer. Through my work I invite strangers to engage in playful encounters with the unfamiliar, comprising the conception and design of festival installations, games, workshops, talks, events, publications, and online experiences. Facilitating and promoting communal creation and embodied learning is an integral part of my work.

I work on self-initiated projects as well as in commission for NGO‘s, activists, cultural institutions, festivals and design studios, which have been shown at Tate Modern London, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Meetfactory Prague, Graphic Design Festival Breda, Gwangju Biennale South Korea, Design Biennial Istanbul and Dutch Design Week Eindhoven.

I hold a Master‘s degree in design (Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam NL) and work as a self-employed designer since 2012. I have been a grantee of the Talent Development Stipend by the Dutch Stimuleringsfonds, was artist in residence at Open A.I.R, Plzeň and a scholarship holder at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Germany.

I have lectured at OTIS College of Art and Design Los Angeles, Blokovi Design Conference Belgrade, Checkpoints & Chokepoints Arnhem and currently teach immersive design and graphic design at DBKV ArtEZ Academy of the Arts Arnhem.
